Week 17

                                              The Little Riders

A few weeks ago we read a book called The Little Riders. It's about a girl called Joanna, she's living with she's grandmother and grandfather in Holland. But the Second World War break out, the nazis invaded  Holland. A few weeks later are teacher found the movie. When we look on the movie it's a little different from the book. In the movie it was more action.                             

The water cycle test  

                                                                Two weeks ago we had a water cycle test. In the test was this a question           (How can a drop of water that you drink end up in a bananbplanta in Colombia.)

First you drink a glass of water then the you pee out the water in the toilet.

The water go to the water purification aches. And the water come out to sea In the sea the water evaporates and travols to Colombia and the bananbplanta drink up this.

         Armenian Church

The Armenian Church will canonize up to 1.5 million Armenians who died during the genocide hundred years ago . The ceremony may be the largest canonization in history and takes place before the commemorations marking it on Friday passed a hundred years ago the massacre began.

The Apostolic Church has called on all Armenians through prayers participate in this " historic event". The ceremony will be held in Armenia's largest church on Thursday evening and afterwards bells to chime in Armenian churches worldwide.

Armenia has struggled for decades to mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, which began in April 1915 , to be recognized as a genocide . But Turkey , the Ottoman Empire 's successor, has refused . According to most scholars called for genocide between 800,000 and 1.5 million lives .

Grammar films

We did grammar films.  We had verbs,Nouns,Adjectives,prepositions and pronouns.

All groups  where 3-4 persons and every group had 1 word class.

It was fun to do the films but it was hard to come up with something. It took 4-5 lessons 

To do the films and we showed them to everybody 17 April in the classroom.

Mystery story - detective story

In Swedish, we are going to write detective stories. We already started to plan character names and things that will happen in our story. There are different kinds of detective stories, such as the hard boiled one and the psychological thriller. After we are finished with the story, we will make trailers of them. We think it's going to be fun to write them! We have watched and analyzed different kinds of detective stories.

Social studies test

Next week we are going to have a

test about the Middle Ages. The test

is about three categories, the church to the king power,

from when its many thievery to a

country with laws. And from farmers

to city dwellers. You going to write a 

text about each category.   

Geometrical figures 3-D

We made cuboids in pairs. We figured out how to make the template and fold it so it became a cuboid and then we tried to explain exactly how we made the cuboids so someone that had no idea what a cuboid was can make one only by reading the instructions. On Monday we're going to read each other's texts and give feedback.

Week 13

                          GYM.classic 

In gym we dans to classic music, the theme was: school. We listened to Mozart,     Johann Sebastian Bach, Beethoven and some others. Monica  recorded when we danced so she and Tommas  can se how we moved to the music.

This week we have started with geometry in math. We hade a test first about shapes and we hade to describe the shapes, we also have done some 3D cubes. Charlotta goes on some math course and she need to learn us some things. It's really fun because you learn so much.

                                         Middle Ages museum

                         Today all the 5th graders went to the Middle 

                            Age museum. We had a guide who showed

                          us around in the museum. First he showed a painting

                         of Stockholm in the Middle Ages. In the Middle Ages 

                          it was only "Gamla Stan" that was Stockholm, the rest 

                             was country side and farms. Then he showed us a 

                     skeleton from the Middle Ages, he said that in the Middle Ages 

                         people were buried with their feet to the east. Then he

                           showed us around in Gamla Stan but another group 

                     is writing about that.

   Airplane crash in Alps

Only one pilot was in the cockpit when Germanwings plane crashed in the Alps. An investigator says that it is clear from the recordings stored in the black box , that one of the pilots should have left the space before the descent began.

Tomorrow do we have a grammar test in Swedish.

There will be different word classes, all these word classes will be in the test: Adjektives, Nouns, Prepositions, Pronouns, numerals and verbs.

we have received a booklet that we should practice with at home. We have also received a pretest in which to insert different words in different word classes.

Grammar films 

Last week we worked with grammar films. We we're grouped up in groups of 3 people and got one word class per group there were five preposition, adjectives, verbs, nouns, numerous & pronouns. We were to make movies about the word class we were assigned.

Week 12

            Solar eclipse

On Friday there will be solar eclipse on Sweden. In Stockholm the 18 % of the sun will shown. A solar eclipse a is when the sun, moon, and the earth in in a kind of perfect line from the people's point of view. The total solar eclipse is when the whole sun is not visible. The total solar eclipse will happen only on Färöarna and Svalbard. You have to look at the sun with special glasses or with a special technique to look at the solar eclipse. Otherwise it's bad for your eyes to look at the sun when it's visible. Even when the 1% of the sun is visible.   

        Grammar Films

In our Swedish lessons have we worked with Grammar films. The sense of the films was to understand witch part of speech that was. You can for example have a film with a class that have a lesson of their part of speech.When we are finished with the films we will show them for the class and they are going to guess witch part of speech that is.    

The Swedish government think area of ​​Palestine to be counted as a separate country . It said Prime Minister Stefan Löfven last Friday when he told if the new government policy. It immediately became fuss about it.Palestine is part of Israel.

Palestinians want their own country.But Israel does not want it. It has been a long war in the area. Now Israel's leaders angry on Stefan Löfven and Sweden.

Rock your socks

         Expressive Dance

Today in p.e class we went to the auditorium and danced to classical music by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Khorsakov, Nielsen, Bizet and Faure'. While Monica filmed us and tomorrow we will be sorted into two groups and make a coregrafi and perform it in front of the rest of the class. Expressive dance is a kind of dance that expresses a feeling or the song you're dancing to.    

Sodexo

Sodexo is having a competition and you could win a iPad Air The only.  thing you have to do is too write a recipe of something you can cook. Then you have to send it! They will announce the winner. Today we get to test to cupcake's wan with raspberry and wan with blueberry.

Week 10

National anthems

This week  wen we have music we was singing the national anthems of Norway Denmark Sweden Finland and Iceland. It was really hard because no one  can speak some of that languages.

GRAMMAR 

In this week we have worked with pronouns and numbers. a pronoun is a word as 

it says that instead of name like she, he, you, I, we, they. Numbers are for example in the sentence : I came first in the marathon. It's also 12 or twelve.

                                     The Holy Birgitta and Queen Margareta 

Queen Margareta is an important woman in northern Europe. She was the one who made the Kalmar Union. She made Sweden, Norway and Denmark allies or one country. She was the daughter of Denmark's king Valdemar Atterdarl. The first time she tried to create Kalmar Union it did not go as planed. Sweden wanted to rule their own country and Denmark wanted to rule the whole Kalmar Union. But she made it anyway. The holy Birgitta was a really important woman she could talk to Jesus. She waited 18 years for the pope to come to Rome and give her permission to build her own monastery. She never saw her own Monastery because she died before that. 

            Rainforest

We have started working with the tropical rainforest. Lotta wrote up questions about rainforest as we would say. When we had finished writing the questions we would get a different task to do. It's like a huge greenhouse in the UK where they have very many plants and some animals from the rainforest.

Sports holiday

Last week it was sports holiday.

The most one in the class was

on vacation or skiing. Mira was in

a ski resort called "Romme alpin" and skiing

(obviously). And Nadja was just at home and

was on some museums. And some was in

other country's for example London.

It was very fun to have sports holiday

and some flowers have come so

it will be spring soon.:)

Dance in gym

Today in gym class we were divided a into four groups. We got fifteen minutes to make a dance to a song called "One Last Time " by Ariana Grande, and performed  it in front of the class while Monica recorded it. There was work expereince student, but she mostly sat with her phone. We do it in eight beats. It was fun, but a bit nervous when we had to perform it.

Week 8

The Little Riders 

We have done some covers to our The Little Riders book. Before that we read the book during  English time. On the cover we had to draw something that was special about the book.  We have read four chapters and it's really interesting. The book is really good.

Women locked her kids in over 10 year's

                                        

A 59 years old women is suspected for locked in Her 

Kids in Her apartment  for over 10 years. When the police patrol came to the women's door they had to break up Her lock. The women arrested o'clock  5:40.

Her kids is over 18 years old. 

~Rainforest~
Under this week we worked with rainforest and the water circle. You can find 3 different rainforest one of them is tropic rainforest, temperature rainforest and the last is subtropic rainforest. 
You can find rainforest in Australia, Africa, the Amazon, Central America and a lot of more places. 
All rainforest is always damp.

        Mathematics

We have been working with allot of math for the past few weeks because we are going to do the Stockholm test. This week we got a homework about angles. We have worked with angles past few weeks. This week we have been working with decimal number. We have already did the Stockholm test part 2. We don't know why we did the part 2 first.

Yesterday we made our own cards. we would write a word at the top of the card and then we would write three words that we did not going to say when we would explain the word . this is the game.

We have started with students choice and today we are going to talk about art. In art we are working with warm and cold colures so we have a paper and then we have to do a symmetric pattern and in the middle we have to take the worm colures example, red, orange and yellow and outside the pattern we have to take cold colures like blue, violate.

Today in gym class we had theory. We talked about health, both physical and mental. We got a paper, which we had to answer some questions about a sport that we chose. We had to write what the sport made us feel, and what parts of the body gets trained.

and prepositions. We have watch a program 

called "Grammatik Bolaget", in each episode learns

us about a part of speech.

A noun is a word that you can see

or a name on a person. A verb is something that you

do or had do. A preposition is a "small" word

like: in, and, or, is etc...

Week 7

 Guard pounded child's head in the ground

Two children didn't pay on the subway and got caught not paying. They were immigrants and wanted for stealing on the subways so the guards were trying to arrest them. The younger boy was trying to get away and kicked the guard who stood in his way. The guard pushed him down on the ground and held him so that he couldn't get away. When the other boy tried to help him the other guard pushed him down on a bench stepped on his foot so he couldn't get away. When the younger boy tried to escape the police who held him pounded his head into the ground and witnesses said that it echoed all over the waiting hall. 

The boys were taken care of by the social services.

   

            Friday the 13th

Friday was always known as a bad day. In Ancient Rome they executed convicted criminals on Fridays and the Romans crucified Jesus on Good Friday.

The number 13 is unlucky in many cultures .   for example there were 13 at the table during the Last Supper.

The combination of Friday and the number 13 is unlucky.

On Saturday it's valentines day but we are celebrating it on Friday.  We are going out on the school yard and sing and form a heart.

A fun thing is that we are celebrating it on Friday 13th. 73% that buy flowers is men 27% is women. On Valentines day we are going to make some cards and just do some craft work that has something to do with Valentine's day.  You celebrate valentines day in a Lot of countries in Swedish we call it ,alla hjärtans dag" . We are also going to play some games and things like that.

We have started working with heraldry last week. You are supposed to make your own heraldry. When your making your own heraldry you have to follow these rules:

You are only allowed to use white, black, red, green, blue, silver and gold. 

You can not cross metal with metal. 

you can not cross color with color. 

The heraldry must be about you f.ex: if you were born in Africa the you will have a zebra or a elephant. 

You are allowed to cross metal with color. 

Metals: silver and gold. 

          Ice skating

On Wednesday 11/2-15 we went ice skating at Östermalms IP. We were there ice skating with our parallel classes.  If we managed to go 14 laps around the track so we managed the Classic tournament One lap is 400 meters.

                Decimals

We started work with decimals about a week ago. 

We worked with decimals in the 3th grade too but it was a little easier.

One tenth is 0,1 ,  one hundredth is 0,01 and  

one thousandth is 0,001.

We get math tasks like: 1 thousand, 

4 hundreds, 9 tens, 7 units, 2 tenths and 7 hundredths. Then we have to write it in numbers like 1497,27.

This weekend was the second week of studentś choice.

In social studies we are doing pets and we have five weeks to finish it.

In woodwork we do anything we want to do, like chairs and bridges

Almost everyone thinks that students choice is fun.                                            

 Grammar 

In Swedish we are working with grammar and we talked about verbs and nouns. We watched a show called the grammar company. We also looked at pictures to pick out which are verbs and nouns. 

A verb is something you do, for example jumping, running and swimming. 

A noun it's a person thing and place or an animal and you can put a, an and several in front of it.

This week we got new students choice.

In art class we drew a grid that was 7x7. 

Then we folded a paper and cut out a shape,

so that it would turn out symmetrical. 

Then we traced the cut out shape on the

paper with the grid. Then we painted the background 

with cold colours (like blue or green) and painted warm colours 

inside the shape. Like this:

Week 6

       Water cycle

We have worked with various cycles. We 'll tell you about the water cycles.It starts with all of the water is located in a sea and it is heated by solar energy that evaporates and becomes clouds.Then it rises up and there will be more pressure so that there is precipitation in the form of rain / snow or hail.

We read the little riders. it is very good and is about Johanna who currently lives in Amsterdam with her grandmother and grandfather. One German soldier takes Johanna's room and she has promised herself to never look a Nazi in the eyes.one night she hears that he plays the flute in her room.One night when the Nazi plays the flute she sneaks up to him.To the nazis room and opens   a little door and see a picture of his family.After a while she goes down and tries to go to sleep but she can't.

Skating Next Week!!!

The 11th February on next Wednesday we are going to Östermalms IP and there we will skate.

We have to skate 14 laps to get the Sport Classic.

Students choice 

This week we got a new student choice. It was kind of in the last minute so we didn't really get what we wanted. There was five different things to choose from: writing, Social studies, Woodwork, art and needlework.

           TransAsia Airways Flight 235 crash

The 4/2-15 there was a terrible plane crash in China which killed at least 32 people.  The plane crashed into Keelung river two minutes after takeoff. The pilot discovered an engine flameout and that was the cause of the disaster, there where 53 passengers and five people in the crew. 17 people where rescued but there are still 12 people missing.

Outdoor gym

Tomorrow we are going to have outdoor gym. We are going to play something out in the snow. We don't no what we are going to do. We hope that we can have a snowball fight. We want it because it's very fun.

                                              Heraldry

 We are going to start working with heraldry. We suppose to create our own heraldry. The heraldry must follow these rules when your making/drawing your heraldry. 

The colors must be white, black, red, blue, green and purple.

Metal and metal are not allowed to cross each other. 

Color and color is not allowed to cross each other. 

So metal and color can cross. 

The heraldry has to be about yourself. F.ex: if your name is Thor then you like have a Thor picture on it or something. If you are born in Greenland then you can have a picture of a green land.

This week we started with math puzzles.

 We got a paper with ten math puzzles and every one tried to solve them. Every one isn't finished but some students are completed with everything.
